Launch Report

Anyone familiar with TR knows he puts too damn many cameras on rockets. July was no exception.

TR flew his L1 rocket on both Saturday and Sunday on different motors and with different payloads.

And too damn many cameras....

Loaded up on the high power pads (at right) is the L1 with an H-219 motor and six cameras.
TR Garman - L1
Saturday's launch on an H-219 Blue Thunder motor leaves little in smoke trail behind the L1.
A shot of the field and pits just after the laundry blows onboard the L1 on Saturday.
The L1 had (past tense) a Jolly Logic Altimeter 2 on the cord until Saturday when the tab on the altimeter broke and fired the device into the nether world. Detail below.
Sunday's launch was far more dramatic on an I-211 White Lightning motor.

In addition to the I motor, the L1 carried TEN onboard cameras (perhaps a first!). Altitude of 1,600' could only be estimated due to the loss of the altimeter the day before.
Four cameras (orange blocks) mounted in a 3D printed ring.
Two cameras mounted in a separate payload section.
Sunday's launch added four more cameras (one on each fin tip) for a total of TEN onboard cameras.
The parachute slips out of the Jolly Logic Chute Release at apogee. Luckily winds were light enough that the L1 didn't drift out of recovery range.

Shot from one of the fin mounted cameras.

Decending short of the trees to the east, the L1 ended up in the brush across the road but accessable.
A shot from one of the downward facing fin mounted cameras shows none of the rocket but a great shot of the landscape around the launch site.

Not everything worked perfectly with the two L1 flights but all in all, TR was pleased.

And be sure to check out the upcoming launches as more is planned for the L1.
