TR Garman borrowed an idea from "rockets" that Rick Shubert got as freebies.

Joe Pscolka called this the Whirlygig just before launch and TR thought it an appropriate name. Here it flies on its first ever flight on an A8 motor from the low power pads.

While designing the 3D printed Whirlygig, TR had to guess at a couple of things:

CG
CP
number of fan blades
blade twist angle
motor position
height
diameter

And for a version 1 flying thing, the Whirlygig worked out pretty well.

Version 2 is under develpment.

Ron Weiss watches another of his flights as his SA-14 Archer heads up from the high power pads on a G80.
