Anyone who regularly reads the Launch Reports of TRIPOLI Pittsburgh is probably familiar with TR's L1 rocket.
The L1 flies at nearly every launch and is over polluted with cameras.
In May the L1 flew with 4 RunCam orange 4K cameras and 2 newly installed RunCam 4K HelmetCams, for a total of 6 installed onboard cameras.
The L1 jumps off the rail at the high power pads on an Aerotech H-283 Super Thunder motor.
For the May launch, an additional payload section was added for the two HelmetCams. The payload section can be seen just above the black ring that holds the orange cameras.
Two of the RunCam orange cameras can be seen mounted below the additional payload section.
This shot is from one of the orange cameras.
A shot from one of the HelmetCams as the L1 approaches apogee.
At left the two HelmetCams can be see branching out from the payload tube.
Due to the added weight of the payload section and the two extra cameras the L1 only attained an altitude of 812' so even with the winds, recovery was easy.
Keep an eye out for more research with the L1 in the coming months. Another payload section is in the works and will be tested once work has been completed.
And look for an article detailing the use of the HelmetCam in an upcoming issue of the TRIPOLI national journal "High Power Rocketry".
