Doug Knight drove all the way up from North Carolina to fly his Level 3 certification flight.
Overly strong winds forced Doug to make the difficult decision to cancel his flight.
"I really want to fly but the winds are just too much right now.", Doug commented.
Ken Allen of Perfomance Hobbies makes the trip up from North Carolina with his truckful of bins of motors and parts for nearly every launch.
Here Ken fills out some paperwork for new flyer Ron Weiss.
Speaking of our TRIPOLI Pittsburgh's newest member, Ron Weiss flew his Zephyr on an H-100 (at right) for his Level 1 certification flight. Motor ejection meant that his parachute deployed at a higher altitude than what may have been optimal and the winds carried the Zephyr towards the trees to the east of the field. After a lengthy search, Ron came back empty handed and disappointed.
Casey Andre returned from searching for his Big Nuke and reported having seen the Zephyr. An additional trek out led Ron to find his Zephyr not in the trees but near enough to the ground to be easily recovered and Ron returned to the pits to have Joe Pscolka sign off on Ron's L1 cert.
Nice job Rob and Congrats!
In Addition to launching his Level 1 Certification flight, Ron Weiss brought out a few additional birds to send skyward.
Here his jumbo Bertha heads up on an E-16 from the low power pads.
