TRIPOLI Pittsburgh Treasurer Rob Camele enjoys some lunch while preparing his birds for flight.
Rob watches his jumbo Red Max take flight from the high power pads.
Rob's Max decends a bit faster than he would like as the chute release does not seem to open.
"I think I forgot to turn on the Chute Release", Rob says sheepishly while noting the bundled up parachute.
Luckily it landed in the taller grass undamaged.
Rob had a number of other successful flights in May without issue.
Steve Howard broght out his ever reliable Talon 4 for a shot at the sky at the May launch. However Steve's Talon was plagued with a similar problem that Francis was experiencing... the Talon would not go. Steve tried everything he could. He swapped out the igniter a couple of times. He tried other lead clips. He tried a different launch pad. Nothing would work. After 4 or 5 tries Steve concluded, "I'm gonna take that as a sign and give up today." The only movement the Talon made was back into Steve's car for the ride home.
Better luck next time Steve.
Speaking of Francis, he hauls his Sidekick back to the pits for another look. "Harrumph and Grrrrr", said he.
Jeff Dick takes the minimalistic approach to pit setups.
Somebody came loaded for bear.
Anyone who guesses whose car this is gets a motor from the 1980's that may or may not explode.
Another Red Max takes off from the low power pads.
Steve watches his Talon do nothing for the 4th time.
